C++ is a high-level programming language developed by Bjarne Stroustrup at Bell Labs. C++ adds object-oriented features to its predecessor C. C++ is one of the most popular programming language for graphical applications, such as those that run in Windows and Macintosh environments.
The C++ programming language was devised by as an approach to providing object-oriented functionality with a C-like syntax. C++ adds greater typing strength, scoping, and other tools useful in object-oriented programming, and permits generic programming via templates. Nearly a superset of C, C++ now supports most of C, with a few exceptions.

What is the use of C++?

C++ is one of the most versatile languages in the world. It is used nearly everywhere for everything - systems programming like - operating systems, device drivers, database engines, embedded, Internet of things and other.
In 1985, the first edition of The C++ Programming Language was released, which became the definitive reference for the language, as there was not yet an official standard.  The first commercial implementation of C++ was released in October of the same year.
In 1989, C++ 2.0 was released, followed by the updated second edition of The C++ Programming Language in 1991. New features in 2.0 included multiple inheritance, abstract classes, static member functions, const member functions, and protected members.

In 1990, The Annotated C++ Reference Manual was published. This work became the basis for the future standard. Later feature additions included templates, exceptions, namespaces, new casts, and a boolean type.

After the 2.0 update, C++ evolved relatively slowly until, in 2011, the C++ Hyperlink standard was released, adding numerous new features, enlarging the standard library further, and providing more facilities to C++ programmers. After a minor C++14 update, released in December 2014, various new additions are planned for 2017.
In the C++ programming language, the C++ Standard Library is a collection of classes and functions, which are written in the cre language and part of the C++ ISO Standard itself.

ISO standardization

The C++ Standard Library underwent ISO standardization as part of the C++ ISO Standardization effort, and is undergoing further work regarding standardization of expanded functionality.
The C++11 standard allows programmers to express ideas more clearly, simply, and directly, and to write faster, more efficient code. Bjarne Stroustrup, the designer and original implementer of C++, thoroughly covers the details of this language and its use in his definitive reference, The C++ Programming Language, 4th Edition.
In A Tour of C++, Stroustrup excerpts the overview chapters from that complete reference, expanding and enhancing them to give an experienced programmer in just a few hours, a clear idea of what constitutes modern C++. In this concise, self-contained guide, Stroustrup covers most major language features and the major standard library components, not of course, in great depth, but to a level that gives programmers a meaningful overview of the language, some key examples, and practical help in getting started.

C++ features

Stroustrup presents the C++ features in the context of the programming styles they support, such as object-oriented and generic programming. His tour is remarkably comprehensive. Coverage begins with the basics, then ranges widely through more advanced topics, including many that are new in C++11, such as move semantics, uniform initialization, lambda expressions, improved containers, random numbers, and concurrency. The tour ends with a discussion of the design and evolution of C++ and the extensions added for C++11.

This guide does not aim to teach you how to program (see Stroustrup’s Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++). For that, it will be the only resource you’ll need for C++ mastery (see Stroustrup’s The C++ Programming Language, 4th Edition).

If you are a C or C++ programmer wanting greater familiarity with the current C++ language, or a programmer versed in another language wishing to gain an accurate picture of the nature and benefits of modern C++, you can’t find a shorter or simpler introduction.

What is the C and C++?

C is a high-level programming language that was developed in the mid-1970s. C++ is a programming language that was built off the C language. The syntax of C++ is nearly identical to C, but it has object-oriented features, which allow the programmer to create objects within the code.

Many other programming languages have been influenced by C++, including C#, Java, and newer versions of C (after 1998).
