What to bring and show at first lesson?

Are you embarking on your first tuition assignment and feeling a bit nervous? Everyone starts out being a bit unsure, even the most experienced tutor. We have assembled a checklist from our experienced tutors to help you along.
The important thing is to be prepared to connect with your student. You must understand what the tutee is struggling and the weakness of its topics. Remember to communicate with the parents, understand their concerns and involve them in their child’s education.

2. Ask how the student is performing, the weaker subject and school attending now.
3. Set academic target with the student.
4. Praise the student in every opportunity. Refer to: "88 ways to praise a Child".
5. Remember, to enjoy your experience in teaching and seeing them learning.
6. Caution. Do not baby-sit the student by asking the student to do Assessments during the lesson.
7. Assessment Sheet/Book as homework is advisable. This is what most Parents will request.

Regular Test and Revision after every 4 to 8 lessons:

It is more effective and enjoyable for Learning. This process of inputting information to the student is the mental energy of understanding. Learning from mistakes, is regular practice and grasping the concepts. Regular Test and Revision increases the understanding and the memory of the individual. The student's motivation is higher and has better retention of the knowledge.
In your first lesson with your tutee is the best period to build the “tutor-student” relationship. You can use this time to set the appointment for your future lessons. Show the tutee that you are confident and friendly tutor that you can help him to ace in his studies professionally. Don’t be unduly harsh and strict. If the tutee fears you then it is too bad for you. The chance of getting termination is higher. It is your duty to praise the tutee. It motivates the tutee to participate actively during the lessons. This encouragement gives the tutee feel comfortable and willing to participate and ask questions and learn.
